I often think about how popular social media has gotten over the past years. I remember when I first started using social media in high school and I think it was because it was the main source of contact between friends. Now social media is used for a lot of different reasons, some better than others. There are a lot of concerns about teens and social media because it is said that they spend to much time on social media. There are a lot of different things to look at when you are on social media and I feel like there is a sense that you are staying connected with everything going on around you when you regularly check social media, it is like a form of the news. Social media gives us a way to stay in contact with one another and gives us the opportunity to spread information at a much faster pace. This is not the first time that this question has been asked. Some say that social media is a way that people can socialize and communicate, which has impacts on our personal lives, as well as the country’s direction. Many different positions on issues are presented on social media and “blown-up” across all platforms that way they can get the most views and affect the way that people think. Social media usually shows the “hottest” topics and the most trending topics in order to grab the attention of the users and make them notice what is going on in the world. I believe that social media has a lot of influence on the way we think and the type of action we will take against a certain topic. I know that when I see a advertisement for a game that looks interesting, I will download it and give it a try. I remember when the last presidential election was going on and I have to look up the standings of the candidates because it was the most popular post on social media. Right now, there are a lot of post about video games and movie trailers that people might find interesting. The reason that all of these things show up on social media is because the producers of the post know that it is what people want to see and it is also very convenient to look at it on social media. Social media is available at one touch of the button because we all have it on our phones. I know that when I’m not doing anything that I naturally like to check social media and I almost always check it before I go to sleep. Social media has become part of our daily lives, it took the place of newspapers and magazines, and now it is a part of our history because of how much it influences our actions and ways of thinking. I also feel like it effects our work efficiency because of how much we check social media, I probably checked my phone four times while writing this post to see if there was anything new on social media. I want to continue to look at the influences of social media from different perspectives and see how they views differ from religion, culture, business, etc.
